What is Pilates?

Pilates, once known as Contrology,  was developed by Joseph Pilates in the first half of the 20th century.  Since then it has grown to world wide recognition as an excellent physical training tool.

At Centred Pilates Studio, we look at the balance of an individual's posture, in movement and stillness, determining where there may be areas of more load or stress on the structure.  A body with postural imbalance, requires more energy to keep it up and moving.  As we address imbalances, deep postural stabilizers come into play, the body becomes more efficient and challenges of load, movement and co-ordination are added.

A well designed Pilates program improves performance, strength, assists rehabilitation and betters an individual’s physical experience.  It’s value is in bringing mental attention to the quality of movement and the actualization of mind/body connection.

Who Can do Pilates?

Pilates is suitable for anyone.  Knowing that Pilates is adaptable to the individual, we can create a program suited just for you.  Maturity does help and generally the youngest of our clients is 16.  There is no limit to age above 16.

Injury -Pilates is well known for assisting recovery.  With our extensive experience we can build a program that will support you through recovery and progress into regular movement and beyond.
